Kiewit and Bokrijk form a contiguous walking and cycling domain of 800 hectares with a varied offering of nature and gentle recreation. Families with children can enjoy themselves here. The ideal base to explore an area with more than a thousand ponds, De Wijers! You can visit the unique landscape via plank paths, decking, viewing walls and viewing platforms.

You will find cultural nature around the buildings. A herb garden, butterfly garden, play forest, play corner, farm animals and a nature garden with plants from all over Limburg.

The Limburg provincial secretariat and the Natuurpunt visitor center are housed in the renovated mansion of Domain Kiewit in the middle of a beautiful English landscape park. The beautiful English park has a large pond and a number of very remarkable trees, including the more than 350-year-old oak that is perhaps the oldest resident of Hasselt. The first nature encounter when visiting the Kiewit nature reserve is often a nuthatch. As an inveterate forest bird, it prefers forests and parks with thick old trees. In Kiewit he has his permanent spot in the forest between the parking lot and the buildings. He also frequently takes a bite from the feeding balls at the visitor center. You can observe it all year round, but you often see it especially in winter, because it is not shy at all. Its bright whistles brighten up the bare forest early in the year. There are many ponds with frogs and water birds.

With a bit of luck you will meet a herd of impressive Galloway cattle on one of the hiking trails. These long-haired, tough but above all good-natured animals replace the wild horses, cattle and red deer that used to live in this region.
