To mark Natura 2000 Day on 21 May 2025, Natagriwal has published two new nature hikes, two loops of 7 km and 15.5 km, illustrated with biodiversity points of interest to help walkers discover the region's natural heritage. An event was organised at La Hulpe by Natagriwal, Natagora and SPW as part of the LIFE Belgium for Biodiversity (B4B) project, and attracted more than 150 people who came to take part in guided tours or enjoy a self-guided walk.
Visitors were able to cross the Natura 2000 site ‘Vallées de l'Argentine et de la Lasne’. This site covers an area of 720 ha, extending over the municipalities of La Hulpe, Lasne, Rixensart and Waterloo. Both walks cross the La Hulpe part of the site, starting from the Solvay estate. The environments encountered include lakes and wetlands, flower meadows and orchards, beech forests including the famous ‘cathedral beech grove’, trees classified as remarkable and other ‘habitat trees’, as well as many other biotopes favourable to biodiversity. The area also hosts several species of bat and bird, including the black woodpecker, the little owl and the marsh harrier.
