Centered around the Virelles Pond, the site includes a range of habitats such as pedunculate oak woodlands, ravine maple forests, and calcicolous beech forests. It also features hay meadows, calcareous grasslands, wet meadows (notably in the Eau Blanche valley and along the Ruisseau de Boutonville), alder carrs, reed beds, willow thickets, and Molinia meadows. The Blaimont area and the 'tiennes' (hills) south of Aublain are home to calcareous grasslands, which vary in quality depending on the location. The large pond fosters the development of diverse aquatic plant species. The site is notable for the presence of rare species in Wallonia, such as the common yew (Taxus baccata), the European otter, and a bat colony in the Lompret Cave.
