Knowledge sharing for more biodiversity-friendly lighting

On 2 December, Brussels Environment organised a training day on outdoor lighting in collaboration with the Engie-Laborelec laboratory.
This training, which takes place in the context of the development of strategies towards biodiversity-friendly strategies in the Brussels-Capital Region, aimed to provide stakeholders dealing with lighting issues, particularly in municipalities, consultancies, and government agencies, with a better understanding of the technical and regulatory aspects of lighting, as well as field measurement tools.

More specifically, participants were able to learn about and discuss the following topics:

(1) The fundamentals of photometry (in particular, understanding the most common units of measurement)
(2) Lighting standards used as a reference by lighting operators for road design
(3) Equipment to be used and methodology to be followed to measure lighting in the field, notably to identify situations that are problematic for biodiversity
